What's the AI Receptionist and how does it work?
The AI Receptionist is an OpenAI-powered virtual receptionist that answers your inbound calls 24/7. It greets the caller in plain English (or any of 50+ languages), understands what they need, takes messages, screens spam, routes to the right person/department, and can book meetings. Setup takes minutes - you connect 3CX to OpenAI through the Admin Console, create an Agent, write a short brief about your business, and the AI takes calls from there. Configuration sits within your encrypted 3CX environment.
How does sentiment tracking work?
During contact-centre calls, the AI analyses the live transcript and scores caller sentiment (positive/neutral/negative) every few seconds. Supervisors see real-time sentiment on their dashboard. When sentiment drops below threshold the system can alert the supervisor automatically - letting them whisper or barge into the call before the customer escalates. After the call, the full sentiment timeline is attached to the recording.
Can I keep audio off OpenAI's servers?
Yes. AI Edition supports a 3CX Transcription Engine (managed by us) that runs on your own GPU (in our managed infrastructure). All audio stays on your network - only the resulting transcript is processed for sentiment/summarisation. For regulated industries (health, finance, government, legal) this is usually the right setup.
What AI engines can I choose between?
OpenAI (cloud, fastest setup, lowest per-call cost), Grok xAI (alternative cloud engine), or the 3CX Transcription Engine running in our Australian-hosted infrastructure (audio stays in Australia). You can mix - for example use OpenAI for the AI Receptionist (low-sensitivity) and the 3CX Transcription Engine (managed in Australia) for sentiment analysis on contact-centre calls (higher sensitivity).
